Because it’s just ice

Mission: Climate change and excessive seasonal temperatures disproportionately impact marginalized communities and The Good Ice addresses the disparities by making cooling provisions (ice) accessible and available to anyone who wants or needs it, regardless of reason, because it’s just ice.

The Problem

Seattle’s heat is sometimes record breaking and lethal (2021 heat dome). Frozen water is present, but it isn’t ubiquitous or used preemptively to prevent heat distress by the people most at risk - or the public. Medication spoilage leading to deterioration in health outcomes and increasing spending. Tempers rise causing unrest and violence. EMS calls and hospital visits spike. Tourism brings scores of woefully underprepared guests. The FIFA World Cup has brought millions of visitors; Seattle needs a system in place during the hottest months when the summer temperatures are predicted to exceed 100°F in another heat dome event. Presently in eastern Washington, the catastrophic natural disaster resulting from arson (allegedly), 65,000 Washingtonians are displaced and there are not enough hotel rooms, shelter spaces, or ice bags to meet the cooling needs of those thousands of residents currently displaced in Washington. before they occur. We ensure heat justice for all.

Beyond Commercial Supply Chains

The 2021 Pacific Northwest heat dome exposed critical failures in commercial supply chains, leaving marginalized communities without essential cooling. Our model prioritizes preemptive distribution and mutual aid networks, ensuring resilience when traditional systems collapse.

Extreme heat impacts disproportionately affect unhoused residents, wildfire victims, and those with temperature-sensitive medications. We establish neighborhood ice nodes, treating ice as a public utility crucial for heat dome readiness and community survival.

A Matter of life and ☠️

By making ice available and accessible for everybody, people will use ice before overheating becomes a life-threatening medical crisis which will save many lives.
